Sunbear Sunbird Set – Standard Firebird Size

Firebird-type pickups are both special and criminally underrated. The internal construction of these mini humbucker-sized designs is quite unique. Whereas standard humbuckers, mini humbuckers, and P90s use horizontally loaded bar magnets to charge screws or slugs under the strings, the Firebird pickup takes a completely different path. Each of its two coils houses a vertically oriented bar magnet spanning the full width of the pickup.

Bridge (Alnico V, ±7.4k): Wound with traditional 42-gauge plain enamel wire and carefully tuned to reach this output level. This added output tames excessive high-end brightness, replacing it with sweet clarity and a full, throaty midrange. Tight lows round out the voice—particularly effective when adding gain.

Neck (Alnico V, ±6.2k): Delivers single-coil–like clarity, low noise, and excellent harmonic richness. Musical and touch-responsive across the board, it offers warmth and smokiness with gentle playing and fullness with more aggressive dynamics. A standout option for expressive players.
