FAQs

Pickup Installation
Can I install the pickups myself?
Pickup installation can be a complex process, and we recommend that you have it done by a professional guitar technician. However, if you have experience with guitar electronics and feel comfortable with the process, you can install the pickups yourself.

Potentiometers and Wiring
Why does pot value matter for guitar tone?
Potentiometers (pots) labeled "500k" or "250k" can vary widely — and that affects your tone. Lower values bleed off more treble, even when the tone knob is on full. Higher values sound brighter and more open. Measuring pots with a multimeter ensures consistent results, especially when trying to match tone across pickups or guitars.

Should I use 250k or 500k pots?
250k pots are typically used with single coil pickups to slightly roll off treble and smooth out the top end. 500k pots are standard for humbuckers to preserve high frequencies. But it’s not a rule — use your ears and test with a multimeter for best results.

Can I use 500k pots with single coils?
Yes — using 500k pots with single coils will make your guitar sound brighter and more open. Some players prefer this for extra clarity, especially in the neck position. If it’s too bright, try a 470k or add a resistor to balance it.

How do I measure a guitar pot?
Use a multimeter set to resistance (Ω). Measure across the two outer lugs. For best accuracy, test the pot before installation, or with one lug unsoldered. Expect variation — a “500k” pot might read 470k or 550k.
