Sunbear 54 SB90 P90 Pickup Set

Sunbear’s 54 SB90 Soapbar set is based directly on vintage examples that have passed across the Sunbear bench for repair and appraisal. It captures the sweetness and clarity of the best P90s from this era, combining an open, expressive response with the fullness and authority that make a great vintage P90 so distinctive.

Bridge (Alnico III, ±8.0k): Full of swagger when pushed, with the punch and character expected from a great mid-’50s P90. Roll back the volume and it opens into a chiming, slightly twangy single-coil voice, with excellent touch sensitivity and a strong response to playing dynamics.

Neck (Mixed Alnico, ±7.0k): Inspired by a particularly sweet vintage example that was found with mismatched magnets. Full and rich without sacrificing definition, it balances warmth with clarity and retains articulation even as the sound thickens.

Both pickups use a period-correct winding pattern with subtle variations to recreate the inconsistencies found in vintage wire, along with carefully specified carbon content in the steel parts, long internal start wire and custom rough-cast magnets.
